   supermarkets
3. Defensive towns Begun as defensive settlements
   usually have a castle or ruins
4. Resource-based settlements based around the
   exploitation of a natural resource ie coal
5. Ecclesiastical settlement towns with a
   religious function i.e. Knock
6. Recreational settlement A town that provides
   leisure services for tourists
7. Dormitory Settlements People live here but work
   in a larger city.
