Paleolithic (Early Stone Age)
  • They came from eastern Asia crossing the Bering
    Strait (land Bridge) following herds of animals
    for food over 13,000 years ago.
  • The large animals included mastodon and
    mammoths, camels, bison, giant armadillo, wolves,
    bears, and saber-tooth cats
  • Peoples advantage over the animals- tools
    spears and atlatl- a throwing stick.
  • They lived in small groups

Archaic Age (8,000 years ago)
  • The climate became warmer and drier, so the large
    animals began to disappear.
  • They developed tools of stone, used to help find
    and make food.
  • They started to gather nuts, berries and roots to
    add to their diets.
  • They stayed in one area longer.
  • They began to tame animals.

Neo-American Age
  • Began to farm
  • Population increased
  • People lived longer
  • Other work was done
  • Craft workers
  • Political leaders
