Strategic National Stockpile pharmaceuticals and
critical medical equipment - Improve readiness and capabilities of the
National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) teams - Partner with other Federal emergency training

- Homeland Security Information Network Built
upon the system known as JRIES, the department is
expanding its computer based counter terrorism
communications network to all 50 states, 5
territories, Washington D.C. and 50 other major
urban areas. This effort will significantly
strengthen the two-way flow of real time threat
information from the Sensitive-but-Unclassified
level to the Secret levels to state, tribal,
local and private sector partners. - SECURE The Strategic Communications Resources
Effort (SECURE) to provide security clearances,
and secure video and telephone communications to
all the states and territories.

- Project SAFECOM The umbrella program within the
Federal government to coordinate the efforts of
local, tribal, State and Federal Public Safety
agencies working to improve Public Safety
response through more effective, efficient,
interoperable wireless communications. - U.S. VISIT United States Visitor and Immigrant
Status Indicator Technology (U.S. VISIT) program
is the Departments automated entry/exit system,
which will expedite legitimate travelers, while
making it more difficult for those intending to
do us harm to enter our nation. Its full
capabilities will now be installed the
secondary areas of the 50 busiest land ports of
entry by December 2004

- BioWatch DHS early warning detection system of
certain airborne biological releases, whether
they are due to intentional releases or from the
natural environment. The proposed FY 2005 budget
request is 118 million, which is 65 million
above the existing funding level. -
- National Disaster Medical System DHS is
responsible for managing and coordinating the
Federal response to major emergencies and
federally declared disasters. - NOBLE Training Center A DHS local hospital
facility devoted entirely to medical training for
WMD or mass casualty events.

- Federal Law Enforcement Training Center DHS
provides world class, interagency training and
technical assistance of Federal, State, Tribal
and local law enforcement entities. - Homeland Security University Fellows  The
Departments educational program to support the
development and mentoring of the next generation
of scientists as they study ways to prevent
terrorist attacks within the U.S. - Introduction to Community Emergency Response
Teams Distance Learning Course DHS online course
to introduce to citizens the concept of emergency
response teams especially for those communities
who have not yet formed regular CERT teams.
