What is Biodiversity?

• The variety of organisms in a place, whether it
  is small or large is called biodiversity.
• Bio means life and diverse means different.
• Different kinds of life

SOIL

• Many different kinds of organisms live in a clump
  of soil
• worms and insects
• fungi (mushrooms)
• roots of plants
• bacteria

All of these living things keep the soil
healthy.

1. The earthworms tunnel into the soil, which keeps
   the soil loose so air and water can easily move
   through it.

2. Roots take up the water.

• 3. When organisms die, their bodies are broken
  down by bacteria and fungi.

4. The broken down parts provide nutrients for
the plants.

• What would happen if the earthworms were removed
  from the soil?
