The Picture Needs A Descriptive Poem By Tom
Palumbo Author, Yesterday Once Again
3
Chris Van Allsburg found a mysterious set of
pictures left in Chris editors office by a man
named Harris Burdick. Mr. Burdick said he had a
fascinating set of stories to go with each
picture and would return shortly with the
stories. Mr. Burdick never returned, so Mr.
VanAllsburg is on two misssions. One misssion is
to find Mr. Burdick. The other mission is to get
children across the country to finish each
pictures story. Our challenge is to describe
each picture through poetry.

Look at each picture that follows and decide on
three themes and three unique titles that might
be developed from examining the illustration.
After listing your themes/titles decide which
theme/title you can be most creative with in a
poetry format.
  • The caterpillars formed their bodies to spell we
love you in her palm. (A Different Spell)
  • 2. Was the magic gone from her ring? (Ring
    Wonders)
