8Informational
A type of writing that involves describing,
explaining or interpreting information. Examples
are letters, reports, brochures or newsletters.
- The initial statement must be defined and narrow
enough to be supported within the essay (not too
broad). - Each supporting paragraph must have a distinct
topic and all other sentences in it must be a
related fact. Transition words or phrases are
important as they help the reader follow along
and reinforce the logic. - The conclusion paragraph should restate the
original topic and the main supporting ideas. It
should reinforce your position in a meaningful
and memorable way. - TIP Never introduce new material in the
conclusion nor use the word I in this type of
writing.
