Classroom Rules Expectations
  1. Respect Participate
  2. Bring Materials to Class
  3. Complete Assignments on Time
  4. Put Forth an Honest Effort (Do Your Best!)

2
Rule Number 1
RESPECT PARTICIPATE
50 Respect Points each quarter. Sleeping,
chatting, cell phones, doing other work, not
participating are all RESPECT violations 10
points taken away for each violation. Points
can be earned back 3 good day 1 bad day.
3
Rule Number 2
BRING MATERIALS TO CLASS
Pen or Pencil Paper Calculator Textbook Chemistr
y Binder Assigned Work
No Backpacks. Keep Pop/Water, Food/Candy out of
sight. No Food/Drink in Lab Area. Be In Your Seat
When Bell Rings or Be Tardy.
4
Rule Number 3
COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS on TIME
2 days to make up each day gone late work is
half credit or zero. Check schedule or absent
book for assignments when gone. Knowing what you
missed while you are gone is YOUR responsibility.
5
Rule Number 4
PUT FORTH an HONEST EFFORT DO YOUR BEST!
Cheating/Copying Policy
Copying/cheating will result in NO points for the
assignment, quiz or test. Wandering eyes
copying dont do it!
No sharing of calculators, notes (books), or
periodic tables for test/quizzes.
6
Discipline Policy
  • During Class
  • Verbal Warning.
  • Verbal Warning Record Incident, Contact
    Parents.
  • Office Removal From Class Until Incident is
    Resolved.
  • More Immediate Consequences During Labs.

Clean Edge, Not Confetti
Write answers in complete sentences this means
that the question is embedded into the answer no
pronouns (they, it, he, she, etc).
Show your work for partial credit options.
Box-in your final numerical answers dont forget
units!
If I cant read it, its wrong!

Chemistry Syllabus (Summarized)
What is Chemistry?
Chemistry is the study of the properties and
composition of matter (atoms and molecules). It
uses concepts from physics and is useful in
explaining a lot of biology.
Chemistry is NOT blowing stuff up!
12
Chemistry Syllabus (Summarized)
Brief Class Outline
  1. Lab Safety, Matter, Measurements.
  2. Atomic Structure, Periodic Table.
  3. Chemical Bonding, Chemical Reactions.
  4. Stoichiometry, Gases, Solutions
  5. Acids/Bases, Oxidation/Reduction Reactions.
  6. Organic and Biochemistry

13
Chemistry Syllabus (Summarized)
Bring to Class Each Day
  1. Chemistry Binder with Blank Pages for Notes
  2. Chemistry Text Book
  3. Pen or Pencil
  4. Calculator (with log key)
  5. Assignment Planner
  6. Assigned and Other Materials for the Day

Tardies will be given to those who do not bring
these materials to class.
14
Chemistry Syllabus (Summarized)
How to Do Well in This Class.
Listen, take notes, study your notes, try, read
the assigned sections, ask, work together, dont
copy, participate, hand in homework (neat,
complete, on time).
Understanding is Better than Memorizing.
Anything said in class or on the board is
quizzable.
15
Chemistry Binder
  1. Class Syllabus (protected)
  2. Periodic Table (protected)
  3. Goal Setting Sheet (protected)
  4. Quarter 1 Notes, Worksheets, Graded Stuff
  5. Lab Notebook (spiral)

Binders will be handed in at the end of each
quarter and graded based on completion. Lab
notebooks will be handed in more frequently.
16
Chemistry Labs
If a student misses all or most of an experiment,
a lab report worksheet needs to be completed for
the grade. No make-up labs complete a lab
worksheet instead.
17
Mr. Tischers
Common Questions
I was gone when we went over this stuff a)
you need to get the notes from someone
  • I was gone for a lab, what should I do?
  • If you missed the data collection part
  • Complete the lab worksheet instead
  • if you missed the data analysis part
  • Complete the analysis on your own

Physics Syllabus (Summarized)
What is Physics?
  • Physics is the study of the most basic processes
in nature (forces, motion, matter, energy)
  • Physics attempts to
  • Understand the Laws of Nature.
  • Use Those Laws to Solve Problems.

20
Physics Syllabus (Summarized)
Why Care About Physics?
We are curiousHow do things work? Can we
know (understand) all the laws of nature? I
just want to know (Theoretical)
We like to do useful thingsWill this bridge
support this weight? How should this satellite
be launched? How can I make something that
will do this? (Practical)
21
Physics Syllabus (Summarized)
Why Care About Physics?
Inventions/Discoveries we cant live without.
Laser, Television, Transistor,
Motors/Generators, World Wide Web,
Automobiles, Structure of DNA, Refrigerator
(A/C), Cell-phone/Radio Communication
All invented/discovered/developed by physicists!
22
Physics Syllabus (Summarized)
  • Brief Outline of This Class
  • Mechanics (Newtons Laws, Forces, Kinematics,
    Dynamics, Circular Motion, Energy, Momentum,
    Rotational Dynamics, Gravitation, Fluids, Wave
