Background Information

• Science began long before most of us were
  born. As soon as man became aware of his
  surroundings he began questioning how the world
  around him worked. The actual study of science
  was born in Egypt around Alexandria and also in
  China. Early scientists thought that the earth
  was composed of elements that could be traced
  back to just 4 things air, earth, fire, and
  water. As these ideas found their way to Europe
  through Spain during the Middle Ages men kept
  trying to turn cheap metals into gold. It was
  during this process that a number of chemical
  processes were discovered. What these early men
  were trying to do is to give a practical
  explanation to the worlds functions.

TASK

• First find a partner and watch the video
  presentation
• Then pick a science topic that interests you both
• Complete an Internet search to find out some
  background information about the topic.
• Design a testable experiment on your topic.
• Turn in a complete experiment with background
  information.

• 100 90 Assignment is completed on time, is

  has background information
• 89 80 Assignment is neat, correctly follows
  scientific process, and has background
  information
• 79 75 Assignment follows scientific process,
  and has some background information
• 74 70 Assignment follows scientific process and
  some background information
• 69 60 Scientific process is there but either
  incomplete or incorrect and no background
  information
• 50 An attempt has been done to at least try to
  complete the assignment
