6On-line Parent Resource Guide
Step 1
- An inventory of programs and services available
to families with young children is now available
on our website - This browse-able, searchable site allows
parents/guardians and other community
stakeholders (organizations, clubs, agencies) to
stay connected with what is being offered for
families with young children in our community.
- Special thanks to the wonderful group of UBC-O
Nursing - students who compiled the preliminary list of
resources in February 2005
7Interviews
Step 2
- Parent-to-parent Interviews
- CATCH is training parents/guardians to interview
other parents/guardians to hear their stories - We are using semi-structured interview techniques
which encourage everyone to feel comfortable and
allow for two way communication and openness
- Focus Groups
- We will also be talking with parents/guardians
in a group setting to learn about their
experiences with raising young children in the
Central Okanagan
- Community Activities
- We will be bringing the community members
together (including parents, organizations, and
children) for fun and informative activities.
8Asset Mapping
Step 3
- Maps will be created to link the programs,
services, and resources identified by the
community (along with any information or issues
associated with them) - These maps will incorporate other data that has
previously been collected for each neighbourhood
in the Central Okanagan.

Partnership (HELP). More information can be
found at http//www.earlylearning.ubc.ca
9Community Workshops
Step 4
- The participants (parents, organizations,
children) will be brought back together to
discuss the findings of the Community Dialogue - The community members will also prioritize the
gaps and needs identified.
