We will be SINGING!!! Be ready to learn how to
sing together as a group, work on a wide variety
of music, and prepare for a performance sometime
in December and again in the Spring.

BOOKWORMS
Students will read, enjoy, and discover reading
using the Black-Eyed Susan selections, as well
as, many other types of books. Students will
prepare for the author visit in November and
various monthly literacy events. They will also
work on creative reading writing projects for
the FCPS Literacy Showcase that is held in the
Spring.

Fiber NeedleCrafts
Students will explore various needlecrafts
including crocheting, knitting, needlepoint,
counted cross-stitch,, embroidery, and latch
hook. Speakers from the community may share
information about fibers spun from corn, soy,
sheep, goats, rabbits, and alpacas. Students will
also make simple projects to take home!

Through
Enrichment
Students will be exposed to words that are linked
to MSA, Bloom's Taxonomy, SATs, or school in
general. Students will learn these words through
various activities (creating board games,
slideshows, brochures, etc.) and will then apply
these words to a game of Scrabble.

Mind Challenge
Students will participate in games that challenge
the mind! Put down the hand-helds and get ready
for some brain power match-ups. Anddid you hear
about the SUPER Pawllar??? This one may not be as
easy as 1-2-3 but it will be FUN!!!

Exploring Computer Programs
Students will explore different types of computer
programs and create projects using Pixie 2, Image
Blender, Photostory, and Frames

Interactive Ancient History
Travel back in time and thousands of
miles from WMS! Students will engage in
interactive activities related to Ancient Egypt,
China, Rome, and Greece on pre-selected websites.

TAE BO
An activity for serious students who want to get
into shape and tone up their bodies! Tae Bo is a
lot like aerobics but it includes punches, kicks,
and stretching exercises.

Comic Book/Graphic Novel Design
Students will view comic books/graphic novels as
their example. They will then use a story of
their choice and write the text create
illustrations for a comic book or graphic novel.
Mini-lessons will help students select the story,
write and edit the text and create their final
draft.

DRAMA
We will explore the various components of Theatre
(voice projection, emotional expression, and
corresponding movements) while aspiring to give a
mini performance at the end of Session 1. There
will be rehearsals and student selected job
assignments.

Dancin' To The Beat
Students will experience the art of dance through
the eyes of various cultural regions. Music will
be played to dances such as cotton-eye Joe,
Cha-Cha slide, Conga line, the Macarena just to
name a few! Soooo put on your dancin shoes
get ready to create your own moves!

SCHOOLYARD HABITAT

In this club students will be working on
maintaining and developing our existing
schoolyard habitat.  This will involve weeding,
planting, and constructing new habitat areas. 
Students should be prepared to get their hands
dirty! .

POETRY
Students will read discuss the meaning of a
variety of poems. They will also have the
opportunity to write their own poetry perhaps
publish one or more of their creations!

Figure It Out!

Studentslearn how to solve math mysteries and
logic puzzles. Improve your analysis skills as
you learn to make and break codes.

Guitar Expo
Students will participate in an exploration of
acoustic guitar playing all styles levels, in
solo or ensemble settings.
(NOTE students are encouraged to provide
their own guitar amps) Only Serious Musicians

Latch Hook Fiber Art
Students will explore the folk art of rug
hooking. They will create original designs to
complete a small rug, wall hanging, or pillow.
Supplies WILL BE provided however, if you have
your own hook, please bring it!

Students will become travel agents by planning

National Engineers Week Future City Competition
Students will work as a TEAM  use SimCity 4
software to design a city that has progressed at
least 150 years in the future has a population
of at least 50,000. This year's theme city is
"Providing an affordable green living space for
people who have lost their home due to a
disaster or financial emergency. Once the city
is designed, students will  make a model of
their future city write a 700-1000 word essay
based on the research they did prior to designing
their city write a 300-500 word City Narrative
explaining the city they created  give an oral
presentation describing the key elements of their
future city.

STRING ART (CURVE STITCHING)
Students will create fascinating line designs
stitched on card stock. The designs, which form
geometric shapes pictures, are all made
entirely by straight lines (stitches), yet they
appear to contain or be formed by curves. Fun
surprisingly easy to do!

History of World War II
Students will analyze the issues that caused the
war to start spread discuss the major battles
and political themes of the war and their affects
on world society and specific cultures examine
outcomes and changes to world history and society
because of the war. Also students will discuss
this topic as it pertains to the novel Ann
Frank.

American History
Extend and enrich your American History
interests. Use print (fiction non-fiction) and
non-print resources to dig deeper into American
History. Use dramatization (book talks) and
discussion to share specific historical themes.
Topics include Archaeology, Native Americans,
Exploration, Colonies, Colonial
Life, Revolutionary War, Declaration
of Independence, Government, Constitution,
American Presidents and their wives, Movement
West, Civil War, and Reconstruction.

THE GREEN TEAM

The Green Team will work to make WMS more
environmentally friendly and become a Green
School!! Students will work on projects such as
recycling composting and will explore ways to
turn trash into treasures!

Sponsor A Child
This is a student service learning activity to
support middle school students in 2 of the
poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere
Haiti Honduras. Students will research
discuss the cultures, traditions (food, music,
holidays) and challenges associated with Honduras
and Haiti. Once an understanding of each country
is established we plan on-going communication.
Also planned are fundraisers and food/clothing
drives to provide for these students.

that they are viewing in their curricular areas.
