Present Perfect

• Past action at an unspecified time
• I have been to Paris.

• Repeated past action, unspecified time
• I have gone to the movies many times.
• Action begun in the past continuing in the
  present

Past Perfect

• 2 past actions, one completed before the other
• Class had started when Yoon arrived.
• I had already eaten when he invited me to lunch.

Present Perfect Progressive

• Stresses length of time of an action
• You have been studying English for five years.
• We have been sitting in class since 200.
• Present progressive
• Action in progress, no stress on duration
• We are sitting in class now.
• Present perfect, Less emphasis on duration of
  action I have studied French since 2003.

Past Perfect Progressive

• Action in progress in the past, stress on
  duration of action
• He had been working at Ford for ten years when he
  was suddenly fired.
• The family had been living in Jefferson for many
  years when they had to move to Carroll.
• The family had lived in Jefferson for many years
  when they moved to Carroll.

• Will base form
