2Short history
- People have during the history lived outdoors in
the nature. - We have survived through hunting and finding food
in the nature. - People in Norway were farmers and fishermen, and
they were dependent of the nature. - It was important to use the nature in a
reasonable way and therefore they wanted to
take good care of the nature.
3- During the Romantic Period, the upper class from
Middle Europe (England, France and Germany) were
inspired by paintings from Norway, and they
visited Norway because they wanted to go hiking
and climbing in our mountains, and they enjoyed
our beautiful nature.
4Confirmed by the law
It is important for us to be able to have contact
with Nature. Access to woods, fields, mountains,
rivers, lakes and sherries, irrespective of who
owns them, is an ancient, unwritten right in
Norway. We can reap of Natures bounty not
only the fish of the sea, but berries, mushrooms
and flowers, and also views and experiences. The
Outdoor Recreation Act of 1957 legalised
the right of access to the public.
5WITH WALKING BOOTS OR SKIIS You can go wherever
you like in open country, summer or winter alike
- you dont have to stick to paths, tracks, or
prepared ski tracks. You can also walk or ski on
frozen or snowcovered fields in winter. You can
stop and rest wherever you like in open country,
except close to an occupied house or hut, but
dont be a disturbance to others who are resting.
6MAKING A FIRE You may light a fire in open
Country, but not in or near woodland from 15th
April to 15th Sept. Dont damage trees
when gathering wood for your fire, use old, dry
branches and twigs. If you make a fire on the
shore, dont place it directly on rock, otherwise
the rock will split.
