WALES
  • ?????????????????? ??????????? ????? ???? ???
    ? 32 ?. ??????,?????????? ?.?.

2
  • Wales is a part of Great Britain to the west
    from England

3
  • Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, started a
number of monasteries in the country. Paintings
of Saint David normally show him with a dove on
his shoulder. His relics are now in Saint David
s Cathedral in Wales. Saint David s Day is
    celebrated on 1 March.

  • On this picture you can see girls wearing welsh
    national clothes.

The Welsh language belongs to Celtic languages.
It is very different from English.
  • Welsh
  • Gwlad! Gwlad! Pleidoil wyf I am gwlad
  • Tra mor yn I r bur hoff bau,
  • O bydded I r hen iaith barhau.
  • English
  • Homeland! I am devoted to my country
  • So long as the sea is a wall to this beautiful
    land,
  • May the ancient language remain.

8
  • Both my great-grandmothers spoke Welsh. My father
and his brothers could speak both Welsh and
English, my generation speaks no Welsh. I am
    learning it at evening class.

9
  • Wales is a land of green fields, forests and
farms. But it is also a land of mountains and
    valleys, streams and waterfalls

10
  • Wales is a country with its own culture and
    history

11
  • The capital of Wales is Cardiff. Cardiff is
Europe's youngest Capital City, achieving its
status in 1955, and although it has grown into
one of the most vibrant cities. It has not lost
    its small town quality

12
  • The name Cardiff is an Anglicisation of Welsh
name "Caerdydd". Caer" means "fort" or "castle."
"Dydd" or "Diff" was a corruption of " Taff",
the river on which Cardiff castle stands, in
which case "Cardiff" would mean "the fort on the
river Taff" (in Welsh the T mutates to D)

13
  • On this picture you can see
  • the emblem of Cardiff

14
  • Cardiff

  • on the river Taff

15
  • Cardiff is an industrial city, a big port,
which also has a lot of historical buildings.

16
  • The centre of Cardiff is surprisingly compact
and most of its sights and attractions are only
a short walk from one another. The Museum, Civic
Buildings and Castle can all be seen from the
main shopping areas which have modern shopping
    centres together with beautiful Victorian
    Arcades.

17
  • Welsh Parliament

18
  • The city is home to the Millennium Stadium which
hosts major world sporting events. It was opened
    in 1999.

26
  • Cardiff is a great place to be a student. Besides
our own college, a Further Education College,
there are two large universities and the Welsh
College of Music and Drama. Although Cardiff is a
very cosmopolitan city, it does not have an
over-concentration of foreign students and you
will find it easy to practice the language
here.On this picture you can see the University
    of Cardiff.
