Newborn Assessment

• Evaluation scales have been developed to assess
  the infants condition at birth.
• Apgar (0-2) 1 and 5 minutes after birth. Summed,
  the scores 7-10 are normal.
• Heart rate
• Respiration
• Reflex
• Muscle tone
• Skin color
• Brazelton (24-36 hours after birth)
• Range of 28 behaviors (sucking reflex, motor
  system control)
