Paper Processes
  • Recycling containers will be placed in all
offices and classrooms , around both Campuses to
    promote paper recycling.
  • At the Middletown Campus, the Facilities
department will be responsible for emptying all
containers and putting the paper into the
    recycling dumpster.
  • At the Fauquier Campus, the Facilities staff and
the custodial contractor will be responsible for
emptying all containers into the recycling bin.
The Environmental Services department of the
Fauquier County Landfill will pick up the paper
from the bin behind the receiving area.
  • Only paper will recycled. If there is mixed trash
in the recycling containers, it will be emptied
into the regular trash and the staff will be
    notified to please separate trash.
  • Containers will not be sorted and will be dumped
in with regular trash if not properly used!

4
Newspaper Processes
  • A newspaper recycling container has been placed
in the mailroom of both Campuses. These are for
    small amounts of newspaper.
  • At the Middletown Campus, the Facilities staff
will be responsible for emptying the newspaper
container in the mailroom into the recycling
    dumpster.
  • At the Fauquier Campus, the Facilities staff will
collect all newspapers from the library and the
container in the mailroom and transport it back
to the dumpster at the Middletown Campus.
  • Employees can put their old newspapers in the
same recycling container that they are using for
their paper, since they are going into the same
    dumpster.
  • Employees at the Middletown Campus can bring
their newspapers from home and dump them directly
into the newspaper dumpster. The dumpster has
been moved to an easily accessible location for
    this initiative.

5
Cardboard Processes
  • The Facilities staff and custodial contractor
will recycle cardboard boxes in staff offices
that are clearly marked for recycling at both
    Campuses.
  • Any boxes not marked will remain in the office.

6
Plastic Processes
  • At the Middletown Campus, the Facilities staff
will be responsible for recycling all of the
plastic bottles around the College and taking
them to the recycling container in front of the
    Facilities Operation Center.
  • At the Fauquier Campus, the Facilities staff and
the custodial contractor will be responsible for
emptying all the plastic/can recycling containers
and putting them into the recycling bin. The
Environmental Services department of the Fauquier
County Landfill will pick up the plastic bottles
and cans from the bin behind the receiving area.
  • Containers have been placed at both Campuses to
    collect plastic bags.
  • Once the containers are full, the Facilities
staff on both Campuses will empty the containers
and put the bags in the recycling container in
front of the Facilities Operation Center at the
    Middletown Campus.

7
Aluminum Processes
  • The Facilities staff will be responsible for
emptying all of the aluminum can receptacles
around the Middletown Campus and placing them in
the recycling container in front of the
    Facilities Operation Center.
  • The Facilities staff and custodial contractor
will be responsible for emptying all of the
plastic/can containers into the recycling bin.
Environmental Services department of the Fauquier
County Landfill will pick up the aluminum cans
from the bin behind the receiving area.

Ink Cartridges Processes
  • HP shipping materials have been ordered and
placed in both mailrooms on each Campus.
  • Staff are encouraged to use these for HP ink
products or contact Anastasia Triplett for
assistance in finding shipping supplies for
    vendors other than HP.
  • Staff are responsible for recycling their own ink
    cartridges.

9
Fluorescent bulbs Processes
  • The Facilities staff has ordered the proper
recycling kits to dispose of the fluorescent
lighting on both Campuses. These include sleeves
to put the lights in, and a pre-labeled box to
ship to a proper disposal site.
  • As the Facilities staff changes the lights, they
put the old lights into the sleeves and store
them in the pre-labeled box. Once the box is
full, it is sent out via Fed-Ex to the disposal
    site.

10
Batteries Processes
  • Battery recycling containers have been ordered
and placed in the mailroom of both Campuses.
These containers are for D, C, AA, AAA, and 9V
    batteries.
  • When the battery recycling container is full, it
will be emptied and sent out in a special
container designed for proper battery disposal.
  • Staff are responsible for putting their batteries
    into the recycling container.
  • All batteries MUST BE TAPED prior to being put in
the container. Batteries that arent taped will
    not be recycled.
