• Journey comes from the Old French (1225) journée
• Which meant a "day's work or travel

in the 1200s?

• Journeys were like work because going to a new
  town or village meant figuring out their
  language, customs, and currency- all of which
  made travel very hard work indeed.
• (Note travel comes from travail, which also
  means work).
