Title: How to Make a Friend
1How to Make a Friend
2How to set up this PPT
- I would recommend doing role playing of making a
friend in a counselors office or lunch bunch
group. - I would take short movie clips and insert into
the PowerPoint to play as a PowerPoint show that
runs by itself. - I would have the student record the story into
the PPT show. - Practice in the lunch bunch or counselors
office. - Have the student watch this short PPT video every
day before lunch time on a computer with
headphones. - When the student is ready, let them go into the
lunch room and try it out with a group of peer
mentors and then with random new friends as
confidence grows.
3My goal is to have more friends.
- Put in picture of student here
4Lunch is a good time to make friends
- Ask if I can join them at their table
Put in picture of lunch bunch in this slide
5Listening first is very important
Put in picture of student practicing listening
here on this slide.
6A compliment is a good ice breaker.
- I like your shirt, backpack, shoes etc.
- Good job answering Mrs. Jones question in Math
class.
Put in samples of compliments you have practiced
with the student and a picture of the student
practicing that compliment in a school setting.
7Once I hear a topic I can speak on I should join
in. These are the topics I can speak on
- Sports
- Basketball
- Baseball
- Television Programs
- American Idol
- Amazing Race
- (List topics here that you have role played with
student on how to keep the conversation going)
8Its important
- That I make a comment and then wait to listen for
others to comment back
9If someone says something I disagree with here
are some comments I can make
- Thats a thought.
- I hadnt thought of that.
- Thats an interesting view.
10When lunch is over
- Thank the group for letting you sit with them.
Put in picture of student saying thank you- a
movie clip of this action would be great too.
11I am proud of myself when I make new friends.
- Put picture of student here with a group of
friends.
