Action Verbs

• Transitive Verbs Directs the action to a
  receiver of the action
• Example The captain rang the bell. (what rang
  the bell)
• The receiver of the action is a noun or pronoun

• Intransitive Verbs Expresses action about the
  subject of the sentence but does not direct the
  action towards another noun/pronoun.
• Example The captain rang for dinner.
• There is no receiver of the action.

Linking Verb

• Connects a noun or pronoun with a word which
  describes or renames that noun or pronoun
• Example The Sahara is a desert.
• The desert feels sweltering.

• remains, seems, smells, sounds, stays,
• tastes, turns

Helping Verbs

• A verb or verbs added to the main verb to form a
  verb phrase
• May be separated by another word such as not,
  never, hardly, seldom.
