Power Button
Notes If FAIL / appears in the display, the
radio will not function until the condition has
been corrected. If any problem occurs, the
display shows an error code ERROR /.
- Turn Radio On
- Press the Power button on the control unit.

- The radio then performs a self check.
- Turn Radio Off
- Press the power button on the control unit.
4Display Brightness

To adjust display brightness
- Press the Dimmer button to change the display
brightness to one of four levels. - Off to high
- High to medium
- Medium to low
- Low to off
- If OFF is selected, both the display light and
the - backlight will be turned off (used for
surveillance - operations), but the display will remain active.

To select the home mode
Press . This selects SO FD MAIN from any
other zone and talkgroup in the radio.

A zone is a grouping of modes/channels. To Select
a zone
- Press the PTT button to begin transmitting on the
displayed zone and mode.
- Press either or to scroll to the
ZONE softkey. - Press below ZONE.
- The display shows the current zone and mode.
- Press either or until the desired
zone is displayed. - Press or the PTT button to save the
displayed zone as the new home (default) zone. - The zone name stops flashing once it is saved.
Note If you select a zone that is out of range,
you will hear a low-pitched tone. Select a
different zone.
7Transmit (Trunked Modes)

To Transmit on a Trunked Mode
- Lift the microphone off-hook. Press and hold the
microphone PTT button. - If you hear three quick tones (callback tones)
and the red XMIT (transmit) indicator lights
steadily, proceed with your message. - If you hear a busy tone and the yellow Busy
indicator flashes, all trunked channels are in
use. - Release the PTT button and wait for the three
quick tones. Within three seconds of hearing
these tones, press and hold the PTT button to
transmit your message.
- If you hear a continuous low-pitched tone, you
are out of the system's range. The red XMIT
indicator may flash several times as the radio
tries to access the system. - Release the PTT button and try again when the
vehicle is within range of the system. - Release the PTT button to receive.
8Emergency Alarm and Call (Initiate)

Emergency Button
If the radio has both emergency call and alarm
features, it automatically proceeds to the call
mode after the alarm is acknowledged. To Initiate
an Emergency Alarm and Call
- Press the PTT button and announce your emergency.
- To exit from the emergency state altogether,
press and hold the emergency button until a tone
sounds. - The alternating EMERGENCY display disappears,
and the radio returns to normal operation. Your
radio will now return to its selected talkgroup,
if different from SO FD MAIN.
- Press the Emergency button to activate the
emergency call/alarm feature. - The display begins alternating EMERGENCY with
the current zone/channel. - For trunking modes four high-pitched tones
indicate that the alarm has been received by the
trunked systems central controller. - Your radio automatically reverts to SO FD MAIN
for the alarm, even though the display shows your
originally selected talkgroup (if different).
Note Turning the radio off also cancels the
emergency state.

To add a mode to the scan list
Press either or to scroll to the PROG softkey. Press below PROG. Press either or to scroll to the SCAN softkey. Press and hold below SCAN. The scan indicator blinks and a good-key chirp is heard. Press either or to scroll through the preprogrammed scan list. Press below SEL to add the mode. Scroll through the available priority choices and press below SEL to choose one.
The new mode becomes a member of the scan list assigned to the selected scan list when programming was entered.
Note If a scan list is full, you will hear a
bad-key chirp each time you press below
SEL, and the desired channel will not be assigned
to the list.
Press either below SCAN, or to exit scan list programming and return to normal scan operation.

To delete a mode from the scan list
Press either or to scroll to the PROG softkey. Press below PROG. Press either or to scroll to the SCAN softkey. Press and hold below SCAN. The scan indicator blinks and a good-key chirp is heard. Press either or , or turn the channel knob to locate the talkgroup to be deleted. Press below SEL momentarily to scroll through the available priority choices until the priority choice disappears.
This indicates that the mode is no longer a member of the scan list that was assigned to the selected channel. OR Press below RCL momentarily to scroll through just the scan list members. OR, Optionally Delete a model from a scan list by pressing below DEL.
