CORE A Theology, Philosophy, Ethics
  • THL 100 an absolute must at this point if not
    taken
  • THL 2XX (Scripture) is another must. THL 3XX
    (Christian) is next, but can be taken Junior
    year. Check Core options for both.
  • PHL/THL 250 (Ethics) can also be taken this year
    if prerequisites have been met

CORE B Culture, Ideas and Civilizations
  • PHL 107 is a must if not taken
  • HIS 101 should be taken this year if not already
    completed. A few are ready for HIS 10X
    (Non-Western). This can also be taken in Junior
    year.
  • ENG 120 and 121 a must if not taken
  • Global 3XX wait until Junior year

CORE C - Non-science major or not pursuing the
pre-health courses
  • Must take 7 credits must take a lab
  • Most students will have taken either their
    science with lab or without lab in the frosh year
  • Remaining science sometime before they graduate,
    but preferably in their sophomore or junior year

  • ATS 113 and 114 Introduction to Atmospheric
    Science
  • Can be taken with or without ATS 114 UCA
    section not open
  • CHM 105 Introductory Chemistry (spring only)
  • BIO 149 (Human Biology) or BIO 141 (Charles
    Darwin)
  • CSC 121 Computers and Scientific Thinking- UCA
    section not open
  • PHY 187 Intro to Physics 188 (lab) available
    for 1 credit with or without 187, 127, 137, 147
  • PHY 107 Introduction to Astronomy
  • Can be taken with or without PHY 108 (lab)

CORE C Science Major or Pre-Health Science
student
  • Some sophs will need to take General Chemistry if
    they took CHM 105 last spring and did not take
    Gen Chem over the summer.
  • If soph has not taken BIO 212, they should do so.
    BIO 211 was offered in the Fall. It is not a
    prerequisite course.
  • These students will have completed Core C

Education Majors
  • Must take EDU 103 first
  • Core D met with EDU 208 and 210 required courses
  • Have student check with the Education Department

CORE D Social and Behavioral Sciences (except
Education majors/co-majors)
  • Two courses from different fields on list in
    Bulletin
  • Less than ½ of non-science frosh will have taken
    one
  • See that they take at least one this year
  • Second course can be taken in Junior year
  • Includes Economics

CORE E - Skills
  • Writing ENG 150
  • most take as frosh sign up for if not yet taken
  • Math
  • MTH 201 for non-pre-health best to take soon
  • MTH 245 for all science and pre-health take as
    sophs if not already completed.
  • Speech/Studio/Performing Arts
  • most take COM 152 as frosh/soph increased
    interest in Art, Dance, Music or Theatre. Can
    take in Junior year.

Language (Classic or Modern)
  • If continuing from high school, should be
    finished or at 201 level by now
  • If choosing a new language, they can start any
    time and must take two courses
  • If going to Dominican Republic for Encuentro
    Domicano, must have some Spanish competency

  • ENG 150 Portfolio (Dr. G. Merys)
  • MTH 201 or 245 Test (Dr. R. Crist)
  • COM 152 Test and Speech (Dr. S. Schuler)
  • FPA Portfolio or Performance - Check with
    Department Chair (Dr. F. Hanna)
  • LANG Test (Dr. B. Keegan/Admin Asst)
  • Native Language Test on reading, writing and
    speaking (Associate Dean, Dr. B. Keegan)

Disabilities in Skill Areas
  • Must have test results establishing a disability,
    i.e. results must connect disability to the skill
    to be learned
  • Can bring from high school or go to Center for
    Health and Counseling or bring from Student
    Support Services
  • Bring to CCAS Academic Office
  • With approval, may substitute disability with
    course in a non-troubling skill area or, with
    language, a second global diversity course
