• A gland is an organ or group of cells that
  secrete fluids.
• The digestive glands secrete fluids to aid in the
  digestion of food.

Salivary Glands

• The salivary glands secrete saliva to moisten
  food.
• Are comprised of
• 1. Sublingual gland
• 2. Submandibular gland
• 3. Parotid gland
• Partial digestion of carbohydrates begin here.

Gastric Glands

• Gastric glands are found inside the walls of the
  stomach.
• 35 000 000 glands produce 2L- 3L of gastric
  juice daily.

The Pancreas

• Located behind the stomach
• Produces digestive juices to help break down food
  and neutralize stomach acid.
• Produces hormones (insulin and glucagon) that
  regulate sugar in the blood.

• Removes poisons like alcohol and drugsfrom the
  blood.
• Produces bile to aid in the breakdown of fat.

• Choice 3- Have you ever looked at the labels on
  the food that you eat? Conduct a food label
  analysis by keeping a food journal for 3 days, in
  which you must record serving size, calories,
  DMV, sugar, salt, fat, and other key data. Also
  take note of minerals/vitamins in the foods that
  you are eating. What have you discovered? What do
  you find most surprising? What is your attitude
  towards certain foods? Will you make different
  choices in the future?

• Choice 4- Create a 3 D model of the digestive
  system out of the materials of your choice. Be
  sure to indicate/label the key features as well
  as provide a detailed report on each of their
  functions.
