APO-Thetas Service Program
  • For over 70 years, APO-Theta has performed a
    broad scope of service in the Charlottesville
    community and on UVA grounds, including
  • Chairing blood drives
  • Improving Ivy Creek, Camp Holiday Trails, Barrett
    Day Care
  • Supporting Garrett Square and Westhaven
    communities
  • Starting the University Escort Service
  • Renovating the Fluvanna County Community Centers
  • Supporting the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
  • Amazingly, the chapter has performed these
    activities with no outside financial support.

Why is outside financial support a priority?
  • Current service project funding comes from
    chapter dues, the occasional car wash, etc.
    meager resources at best
  • More groups approach APO-Theta to do service
    every semester, often needing APO-Theta to supply
    wood, materials, and tools
  • Chapter brothers are willing, but do not have the
    financial means to fulfill all requests
  • For this reason, providing a means to enhance and
    preserve APOs service program has become a
    priority for many brothers and alumni

The means to enhance preserve Thetas service
program
  • To provide financial support to the service
    program, a former long-term advisor of APO-Theta
    has presented a challenge grant to the alumni of
    Theta chapter
  • He will donate 10,000.00 towards the development
    of an APO-Theta Endowment Fund provided that
    Theta alumni match his donation by raising an
    additional 40,000.00 by February 2004, Theta
    Chapters 75th Anniversary.

  • 501(c)(3) Status is Being Researched
  • Purposes
  • Gather for Organized Service and Social Events
    Outside of Pledge Projects
  • Coordinate with the Chapter to Maintain Accurate
    Alumni Database and Inform Alumni of Chapter
    Events
  • Steward The Service Trust

How the Endowment Will Work
  • Alumni Donations Will Fund the Endowment
  • Chapter Will Get The Endowments Income
  • Estimated 5 a year (1,500/year for 30,000 in
    principal, 2,000/year for 40,000 of principal)
  • Funds will benefit APO-Thetas Service Program
  • Chapter will make specific requests for funds
  • Alumni Trustees Will Manage The Endowment
  • Funds must benefit APO-Thetas Service Program
  • Trustees have discretion regarding distributions.
  • No funds for non-service activities (bylaws)
  • No funds for the Alumni (bylaws)
  • Board will meet on Pledge Project Weekends

Fundraising Goal 40,000
  • (In addition to 10,000 challenge grant)
  • Presently (April 2002) raised 16,000
  • Need to raise an additional 24,000
  • Goal may increase due to brothers support
  • Deadline Thetas 75th Anniversary
  • February 9, 2004
