• Essential Understandings
• The five senses receive information from the
  environment, which is carried to the brain by
  nerve cells
• The brain, nerves and spinal column are part of
  the nervous system
• Some organisms are made of one cell, some of a
  few cells, and some are made of many
• cells
• All organisms have basic needs
• There are 10 body systems with specific jobs that
  work together to keep a person alive
• The body systems are circulatory, respiratory,
  reproductive, digestive, skeletal, muscular,
  nervous, endocrine, excretory and integumentary
• When light shines on an object, some of the light
  is absorbed and some is reflected
• The light that is reflected from an object is the
  color we see
• Sight is accomplished through a connection
  between the eyes and the brain there are special
  parts of the eye with specific functions
• The sense of touch is regulated by the skin
• The ears receive vibrations that are sent to the
  brain and interpreted as sound
• The respiratory system provides the body with a
  mechanism for inputting oxygen and discharging
  carbon dioxide
