2It's been called the fourth "R" of education
reading, writing, arithmetic and now, aerobics.
As schools struggle to keep kids active in the
midst of an obesity epidemic, PE teachers are
using technology and the latest fitness trends to
inspire even the most nonathletic children to
develop a lifelong love for exercise.
Approximately 17 of Americans age 2 to 19 years
old are obese. Now teachers are incorporating
golf, rock climbing, bowling and even ping-pong
into their curriculum. "I'm trying to find that
environment where they can find that one lifelong
activity," says Matthew Pomeroy, a PE teacher
from Wisconsin. "All those different things that
kids can kind of be engaged in and enjoy. If
there's one thing Pomeroy is pumped about, it's
using technology in his class. For example,
Pomeroy's class uses iPads to analyze their
archery or free throw techniques.

- Just when cruise lines thought they might be
headed for calmer waters ... At least 162
passengers and 11 crew members have reported
being ill on board Princess Cruises' Caribbean
Princess, according to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention. The institute said health
officers would board the ship in Houston to
investigate the gastrointestinal illness, which
is causing vomiting and diarrhea. The news
follows this week reports of sickness on another
cruise ship, this one from the Royal Caribbean
line. - Marie Mills held her 77-year-old father, who had
collapsed outside in a Washington street. She
screamed for help. A passerby rushed across the
street to bang on the door of a fire station,
knowing that firefighters are trained to provide
emergency medical help. But they wouldn't leave
the station. The same thing happened when two
more people tried to summon the firefighters for
assistance, Mills says. "Everybody started trying
to wave him over." But the firefighter said he
had to be dispatched first. Later, after an
ambulance finally arrived, Cecil Mills died at a
hospital. He had suffered an apparent heart
attack.
