Title: GRAPHING (by hand)
1- GRAPHING (by hand)
- If a system of equations
- If a system of equations
- If a system of equations
- Directions Graph each equation in the system on
the same coordinate plane to find the solution to
the system (the point at which they intersect).
Check to see if the ordered pair makes the
equations true. - 1. 3.
- 2. 4.
intersects, that ordered pair is the one
solution.
has no intersection point, there is no solution.
turns out to be the same line, there are
infinitely many solutions.
2Using a TI-Graphing Calculator to solve systems
CALCULATE The calculator can do calculations
for you. Type . The calculator can find
a specific y-value for a function when you type
in the corresponding ____________. The
calculator can also find an intersection point
of two lines. 5 Enter Enter Enter Find the
intersection point using the calculator. 1. 2.
You can also look at the TABLE. Type
. There is only one x-value column. With
multiple equations typed in at once, there will
be several y-value columns. Find where the
y-values are the same (for a single x-value).
That will be the ordered pair they have in
common. In the example above, the point (2,1) is
on both lines. That is the solution to the
system. Example Lets say you are testing two
different fertilizers. Plant A is 6cm tall and
growing at a rate of 4cm per day. Plant B is
10cm tall and growing at a rate of 2cm per day.
Let y height of plant and x number of
days. The system would be After how many days
will the plants be the same height? What will
their height be?
