Solar Thermal Power Plants Main Goal
  • To harness solar energy for thermal energy (heat)
  • Generates heat using lenses and reflectors to
    concentrate the suns energy.
  • Create two and a half as many skilled high paying
    jobs.

3
Overall Potential to Make a World of Difference!
  • Cheaper storage.
  • Ability to provide a reliable energy source
throughout the day and evening in key locations
    around the world.
  • A source of heat for different levels of
    collectors.

How does Solar Thermal Plants work?
  • Solar panels can be used to collect heat from
the sun to capture its heat and transfer it for
water and space heating in buildings.
  • Commonly such panels are positioned to maximize
absorption of heat from the sun throughout the
day and contain tubing through which water
    circulates.
  • This tubing is known as solar thermal collectors
There is also an indirect method where a
non-toxic anti-freeze liquid is used. The sun
warms this liquid which in turn transfers this
heat to water held in a tank.

5
Technological Obstacles
  • Finding appropriate locations for construction.
Protecting endangered species and getting plants
    built.
  • Taking to long get supplies delivered.
  • Keeping mirrors and lenses clean and clear.

6
Negative Impacts
  • Thermal panels are expensive to run and make.
