2Program Objectives
- Instill ethics, sportsmanship, and
responsibility. - Develop leadership skills.
- Promote the safe storage and handling of firearms
and archery equipment. - Expand 4-H membership.
3California 4-H Shooting Sports Participation
- 5,640 4-H members were enrolled in the project
during 2013-2014. - 699 4-H leaders were enrolled in the project
during 2013-2014. - 1072 4-H members registered for the 2014 State
Matches. - 130 4-H leaders registered for the 2014 State
Postal Match.

currently offers six disciplines.

11National Policy on Paintball
- The purpose of the 4-H Shooting Sports Program is
to promote youth development through the safe and
responsible use of archery equipment and
firearms. - Pointing any type of firearm including air guns,
laser guns or laser sighting devices at any
person or any humanoid target is inappropriate. - The National 4-H Shooting Sports Committee is
unequivocally opposed to such use in the 4-H
program.
12Youth Participation Criteria
- Must be 9 years old or in the 4th grade by
December 31st. - Project must be instructed by leader certified in
the discipline being offered. - Subject to approval of project leader and
members ability to follow instruction and safety
rules. - Participation in Muzzle Loading discipline
requires a minimum of one year prior
participation in another discipline.
13Opportunities for Teens
- Teen Leaders may participate in training
w/adults. - State Incentive Recognition Award program.
- 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador program.
14Adult Volunteer Criteria
- Must be a 4-H leader at local level.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must have certification from 4-H or a recognized
organization.

State Instructors Trained certified in their discipline by the National 4-H Shooting Sports team.
Trainers Trained certified in their discipline by participating in a course offered by an Instructor.
Project Leader Trained certified in their discipline by participating in a course offered by a Trainer or possess certification from an approved organization.

- Steps Involved.
- Be a 4-H leader in your home county.
- Possess approved certification or receive
training in your desired discipline. - Submit an application to the State Coordinator.

- Respect participants.
- Set a good example.
- Respect the dignity of each participant
regardless of ability. - Conduct program in a professional and ethical
manner. - Adhere to guidelines be technically competent.
