3
WHAT DID JOHN PREACH?
  • MARK 14-5
  • 4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and
preaching a baptism of repentance for the
    remission of sins.
  • 5 All the land of Judea, and those from
Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized
by him in the Jordan River, confessing their
    sins.
  • (MATTHEW 33-6 LUKE 33)

4
WHAT DID JOHN SAY CHRIST WOULD DO?
  • LUKE 315-16
  • 15 As the people were in expectation, and all
reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he
    was the Christ or not,
  • 16 John said to them all, I indeed baptize you
with water but One mightier than I is coming,
whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He
will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and
    fire. (MATTHEW 311 MARK 17-9)

5
WHY WAS JESUS BAPTIZED?
  • MATTHEW 313-17
  • 13 Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan
    to be baptized by him.
  • 14 John tried to prevent Him, saying, I need to
be baptized by You and are You coming to me?
  • 15 Jesus said to him, Permit it to be so now, for
thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all
    righteousness. Then he allowed Him.
  • 16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up
immediately from the water and behold, the
heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit
of God descending like a dove and alighting upon
    Him.
  • 17 Suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying,
This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well
    pleased.
  • (MARK 19-11 LUKE 321-22)

6
WHAT DID JOHN TESTIFY?
  • JOHN 119-28
  • 19 This is the testimony of John, when the Jews
sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask
    him, Who are you?
  • 20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed,
    I am not the Christ.
  • 21 They asked him, What then? Are you Elijah? He
said, I am not. Are you the Prophet? He answered,
    No.
  • 22 They said to him, Who are you, that we may
give an answer to those who sent us? What do you
    say about yourself?

7
WHO WAS JOHN? WHAT DID HE DO?
  • JOHN 119-27
  • 23 He said I am The voice of one crying in the
wilderness Make straight the way of the Lord, as
    the prophet Isaiah said.
  • 24 Those who were sent were from the Pharisees.
  • 25 They asked him, saying, Why then do you
baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah,
    nor the Prophet?
  • 26 John answered, I baptize with water, but there
stands One among you whom you do not know.
  • 27 It is He who, coming after me, is preferred
before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to
    loose.

8
WHAT DID JOHN SAY ABOUT JESUS?
  • JOHN 129-32
  • 29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him,
and said, Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away
    the sin of the world!
  • 30 This is He of whom I said, After me comes a
Man who is preferred before me, for He was before
    me.
  • 31 I did not know Him but that He should be
revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing
    with water.
  • 32 John bore witness, saying, I saw the Spirit
descending from heaven like a dove, and He
    remained upon Him.

9
HOW DID HE IDENTIFY THE SON OF GOD?
  • JOHN 129-34
  • 33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to
baptize with water said to me, Upon whom you see
the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this
is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.
  • 34 I have seen and testified that this is the Son
    of God.

10
WHY WAS JOHN WAS BAPTIZING IN AENON
  • JOHN 322-24
  • 22 After these things Jesus and His disciples
came into the land of Judea, and there Jesus
    remained with them and baptized.
  • 23 John was baptizing in Aenon near Salim,
because there was much water there. And they came
    and were baptized.
  • 24 For John had not yet been thrown into prison.

11
WHAT DID JOHN SAY ABOUT JESUS BAPTIZING?
  • JOHN 325-28
  • 25 There arose a dispute between some of John's
disciples and the Jews about purification.
  • 26 They came to John and said to him, Rabbi, He
who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you
have testified-- Behold, He is baptizing all are
    coming to Him!
  • 27 John answered A man can receive nothing unless
it has been given to him from heaven.
  • 28 You yourselves bear me witness that I said, I
am not the Christ, but, I have been sent before
    Him.

12
WHAT DID JOHN SAY ABOUT THE BRIDEGROOM?
  • JOHN 325-30
  • 29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom but
the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and
hears him, rejoices greatly because of the
bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is
    fulfilled.
  • 30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

13
DID JESUS BAPTIZE ANYONE?
  • JOHN 41-3
  • 1 When the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard
that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than
    John
  • 2 Though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His
    disciples
  • 3 He left Judea and departed again to Galilee.

14
WHAT DID JESUS SAY ABOUT JOHN?
  • LUKE 726-30
  • 26 What did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I
say to you, and more than a prophet.
  • 27 This is he of whom it is written Behold, I
send My messenger before Your face, who will
    prepare Your way before You.
  • 28 I say to you, among those born of women there
is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist.
BUT he who is least in the kingdom of God is
    greater than he.

15
HOW DID THEY JUSTIFY GOD?
  • LUKE 729-30
  • 29 When all the people heard Him, even the tax
collectors justified God, having been baptized
    with the baptism of John.
  • 30 BUT the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the
will of God for themselves, NOT having been
    baptized by him.

16
WAS THE BAPTISM OF JOHN FROM HEAVEN?
  • MATTHEW 2123-27
  • 23 When Jesus came into the temple, the chief
priests and the elders of the people confronted
Him as He was teaching, and said, By what
authority are You doing these things? And who
    gave You this authority?
  • 24 Jesus said to them, I also will ask you one
thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell
you by what authority I do these things
  • 25 The baptism of John-- where was it from? From
heaven or from men? They reasoned among
themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven, He
will say to us, Why then did you not believe him?
  • 26 If we say, From men, we fear the multitude,
for all count John as a prophet.
  • 27 So they answered Jesus, We do not know. Jesus
said to them, Neither will I tell you by what
authority I do these things. (MARK 1127-33 LUKE
    201-8)

17
WHAT DID JESUS TELL HIS DISCIPLES TO DO?
  • MATTHEW 2818-20
  • 18 Jesus said All authority has been given to Me
    in heaven and on earth.
  • 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
  • 20 Teaching them to observe all things that I
have commanded you and lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age. Amen.

18
WHO WILL BE SAVED? HOW?
  • MARK 1615-16
  • 15 Jesus said, Go into all the world and preach
    the gospel to every creature.
  • 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved
BUT he who does not believe will be condemned.

19
WHO DID JESUS TELL TO WAIT IN JERUSALEM?
  • ACTS 12-5
  • 2 Until the day in which He was taken up, after
He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments
to the apostles whom He had chosen,
  • 3 To whom He also presented Himself alive after
His suffering by many infallible proofs, being
seen by them during forty days and speaking of
the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
  • 4 Being assembled together with them, He
commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but
to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which,"
He said, "you have heard from Me
  • 5 For John truly baptized with water, but you
shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many
    days from now.

20
WHAT DID PETER TELL THE JEWS TO DO?
  • ACTS 236-38
  • 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know
assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you
    crucified, both Lord and Christ.
  • 37 When they heard this, they were cut to the
heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the
apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
  • 38 Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one
of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins and you shall receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit.

21
WHO WAS BAPTIZED?
  • ACTS 239-41
  • 39 For the promise is to you and to your
children, and to all who are afar off, as many
as the Lord our God will call.
  • 40 With many other words he testified and
exhorted them, saying, Be saved from this
    perverse generation.
  • 41 Then those who gladly received his word were
baptized and that day about three thousand souls
    were added to them.

22
WHO WAS BAPTIZED?
  • ACTS 812-13
  • 12 When they believed Philip as he preached the
things concerning the kingdom of God and the name
of Jesus Christ, both men and women were
    baptized.
  • 13 Simon himself also believed and when he was
baptized he continued with Philip, and was
amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were
    done.

23
WHAT DID THEY NOT HAVE?
  • ACTS 814-17
  • 14 When the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard
that Samaria had received the word of God, they
sent Peter and John to them,
  • 15 Who, when they had come down, prayed for them
that they might receive the Holy Spirit.
  • 16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them.
They had only been baptized in the name of the
    Lord Jesus.
  • 17 Then they laid hands on them, and they
    received the Holy Spirit.

24
WHAT DID PHILIP PREACH TO THE EUNUCH?
  • ACTS 834-37
  • 34 The eunuch said to Philip, I ask you, of whom
does the prophet say this, of himself or of some
    other man?
  • 35 Philip opened his mouth, beginning at this
    Scripture, preached Jesus to him.
  • 36 As they went down the road, they came to some
water. The eunuch said, See, here is water. What
    hinders me from being baptized?
  • 37 Philip said, If you believe with all your
heart, you may. He said, I believe that Jesus
Christ is the Son of God.

25
WHO WAS BAPTIZED?
  • ACTS 838-39
  • 38 He commanded the chariot to stand still. Both
Philip and the eunuch went down into the water,
    and he baptized him.
  • 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit
of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the
eunuch saw him no more and he went on his way
    rejoicing.

26
WHAT DID PETER PERCEIVE?
  • ACTS 1034-37
  • 34 Peter opened his mouth and said In truth I
perceive that God shows no partiality.
  • 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and
works righteousness is accepted by Him.
  • 36 The word which God sent to the children of
Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ-- He
    is Lord of all--
  • 37 That word you know, which was proclaimed
throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee
after the baptism which John preached

27
WHAT DID PETER COMMAND THEM TO DO?
  • ACTS 1045-48
  • 45 Those of the circumcision who believed were
astonished, as many as came with Peter, because
the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out
    on the Gentiles also.
  • 46 They heard them speak with tongues and magnify
    God. Then Peter said,
  • 47 Can anyone forbid water, that these should not
be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit
    just as we have?
  • 48 He commanded them to be baptized in the name
of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few
    days.

28
WHAT DID PETER REMEMBER?
  • ACTS 1115-17
  • 15 As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon
them, as upon us at the beginning.
  • 16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He
said, John indeed baptized with water, but you
shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
  • 17 If therefore God gave them the same gift as He
gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus
Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?

29
WHO WAS BAPTIZED AT PHILIPPI?
  • ACTS 1613-15
  • 13 On the Sabbath day we went out of the city to
the riverside, where prayer was customarily made.
We sat down and spoke to the women who met there.
  • 14 A certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was
a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who
worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed
    the things spoken by Paul.
  • 15 When she and her household were baptized, she
begged us, saying, If you have judged me to be
faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.
    So she persuaded us.

30
WHAT DID THE PHILIPPIAN JAILER ASK?
  • ACTS 1629-32
  • 29 He called for a light, ran in and fell down
    trembling before Paul and Silas.
  • 30 He brought them out and said, Sirs, what must
    I do to be saved?
  • 31 They said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,
and you will be saved, you and your household.
  • 32 They spoke the word of the Lord to him and to
all who were in his house.

31
HOW SOON WAS HE BAPTIZED?
  • ACTS 1629-34
  • 33 He took them the same hour of the night and
washed their stripes. Immediately he and all his
    family were baptized.
  • 34 When he had brought them into his house, he
set food before them and he rejoiced, having
believed in God with all his household.

32
WHO WAS BAPTIZED AT CORINTH?
  • ACTS 185-8
  • 5 When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia,
Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified
to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ.
  • 6 When they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook
his garments and said to them, Your blood be upon
your own heads I am clean. From now on I will go
    to the Gentiles.
  • 7 He departed from there and entered the house of
a certain man named Justus, one who worshiped
God, whose house was next door to the synagogue.
  • 8 Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed
on the Lord with all his household. Many of the
Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.

33
WHAT WAS LACKING IN APOLLOS TEACHING?
  • ACTS 1824-26
  • 24 A certain Jew named Apollos, born at
Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the
    Scriptures, came to Ephesus.
  • 25 This man had been instructed in the way of the
Lord and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and
taught accurately the things of the Lord, though
he knew only the baptism of John.
  • 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue.
Aquila and Priscilla heard him, and took him
aside and explained to him the way of God more
    accurately.

34
WHAT DID HE DO AFTER THEY TAUGHT HIM?
  • ACTS 1827-28
  • 27 When he desired to cross to Achaia, the
brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to
receive him and when he arrived, he greatly
helped those who had believed through grace
  • 28 He vigorously refuted the Jews publicly,
showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the
    Christ.

35
INTO WHAT WERE YOU BAPTIZED?
  • ACTS 191-5
  • 1 While Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having
passed through the upper regions, came to
    Ephesus. And finding some disciples
  • 2 He said to them, Did you receive the Holy
Spirit when you believed? They said to him, We
have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy
    Spirit.
  • 3 He said to them, Into what then were you
baptized? They said, Into John's baptism.
  • 4 Then Paul said, John indeed baptized with a
baptism of repentance, saying to the people that
they should believe on Him who would come after
him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
  • 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the
    name of the Lord Jesus.

36
WHAT DID ANANIAS TELL SAUL TO DO?
  • ACTS 2212-16
  • 12 Ananias, a devout man according to the law,
having a good testimony with all the Jews who
    dwelt there,
  • 13 Came to me and he stood and said to me,
Brother Saul, receive your sight. That same hour
    I looked at him.
  • 14 He said, The God of our fathers has chosen you
that you should know His will, and see the Just
One, and hear the voice of His mouth.
  • 15 For you will be His witness to all men of what
    you have seen and heard.
  • 16 Now why are you waiting? Arise and be
baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the
    name of the Lord.

37
HOW WERE WE BURIED WITH CHRIST?
  • ROMANS 64-6
  • 4 We were buried with Him through baptism into
death, that just as Christ was raised from the
dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also
should walk in newness of life.
  • 5 If we have been united together in the likeness
of His death, certainly we also shall be in the
    likeness of His resurrection,
  • 6 Knowing this, that our old man was crucified
with Him, that the body of sin might be done
away with, that we should no longer be slaves of
    sin.

38
HOW WERE THEY BAPTIZED INTO MOSES?
  • 1 CORINTHIANS 101-4
  • 1 Brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that
all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed
    through the sea,
  • 2 All were baptized into Moses in the cloud and
    in the sea,
  • 3 All ate the same spiritual food,
  • 4 And all drank the same spiritual drink For
they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed
them, and that Rock was Christ.

39
WHAT BODY WERE WE BAPTIZED INTO?
  • 1 CORINTHIANS 1212-14
  • 12 As the body is one and has many members. But
all the members of that one body, being many,
are one body, so also is Christ.
  • 13 By one Spirit we were all baptized into one
body-- whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or
free-- and have all been made to drink into one
    Spirit.
  • 14 For in fact the body is not one member but
    many.

40
HOW DID WE PUT ON CHRIST?
  • GALATIANS 326-29
  • 26 You are all sons of God through faith in
    Christ Jesus.
  • 27 As many of you as were baptized into Christ
    have put on Christ.
  • 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is
neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor
female for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
  • 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are
Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the
    promise.

41
HOW MANY BAPTISMS ARE THERE?
  • EPHESIANS 44-6
  • 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you
were called in one hope of your calling
  • 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism
  • 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all,
and through all, and in you all.

42
HOW IS ONE SANCTIFIED AND CLEANSED?
  • EPHESIANS 525-27
  • 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also
loved the church and gave Himself for her,
  • 26 That He might sanctify and cleanse her with
the washing of water by the word,
  • 27 That He might present her to Himself a
glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or
any such thing, but that she should be holy and
    without blemish.

43
HOW WERE YOU BURIED WITH CHRIST?
  • COLOSSIANS 211-12
  • 11 In Christ you were circumcised with the
circumcision made without hands, by putting off
the body of the sins of the flesh, by the
    circumcision of Christ,
  • 12 Buried with Him in baptism, in which you also
were raised with Him through faith in the working
of God, who raised Him from the dead.

44
HOW WAS NOAH AND HIS FAMILY SAVED?
  • 1 PETER 320-21
  • 20 They who formerly were disobedient, when once
the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of
Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which
a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through
    water.
  • 21 There is also an antitype which now saves us--
baptism (NOT the removal of the filth of the
flesh, BUT the answer of a good conscience toward
God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
