SAGE Purpose/History
  • Science Advisory Group for the EVLA formed by the
    Director to advise the NRAO on optimizing the
    scientific impact of the EVLA.
  • Members drawn from wider astronomy community
    (specific effort to recruit non-radio
    astronomers).
  • SAGE established in Nov. 2006.
  • Terms of Reference modeled on ANASAC.
  • First meeting held in Socorro, May 22/23, 2007.
  • Report sent to the Director, July 24, 2007.

Committee Charge
  • Advise on science priorities
  • First scientific user observing modes
  • First science programs (e.g. first images,
    surveys, key targets, etc.)
  • Prioritize descopes (presently not thought
    necessary)
  • Participate in development and testing of user
    capabilities

    science community

  • 2) A set of priorities that can be used to drive
    decisions of resource allocation and/or inform
    descope options o
  • 3) a small set of compelling science vignettes to
    be used in arguing for funding, etc.
  • Awaiting R. Perley sending the original science
    case document to SAGE members
