Reclassification Criteria Chart
When will these students no longer qualify for
the LTEL program?
Criteria to Be Recommended for Reclassification What it Measures
CELDT (AMAO1 and AMAO2) Overall CELDT score of 4 or 5 with CELDT scores of 3 or higher in Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. The CELDT has 3 purposes To identify new students who are ELs in K-12 To determine their level of English proficiency To annually assess their progress in acquiring listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.
CST/CMA Basic or higher ELA Score. In High School, a passing score on the CAHSEE ELA will meet this requirement. The CST determines how well students are achieving the state's standards in ELA.
ELA C or higher final semester mark in grades 6 to 12. Teachers judgment that a student will be/has been successful in a Mainstream English program.
