Refugee Population Emigration
  • Iran hosts one of the largest refugee populations
    in the world, with more than one million
    refugees, mostly from Afghanistan and Iraq.

  • Despite this, the net emigration rate as of 2009
    was
  • -2.62 migrant(s)/1,000 population. Essentially,
    more people are leaving the state than are coming
    into it.

  • According to estimates, between two and three
    million Iranian citizens have emigrated to other
    countries, mostly since the Iranian Revolution in
    1979.
