Purpose

• To provide a central point from which
  information, in a standard format, relating to
  incidents at inland water locations can be
  obtained and used to ensure effective use of
  search and rescue assets, analysis of trends,
  identification of problem areas and to assist in
  formulating effective legislation and promote
  water safety initiatives

• Need identified for a national picture of
  drowning and accidents on inland waters
• INREM project started 2001 on agreement with
  National Water Safety Committee and managed
  jointly by RNLI and RoSPA as a research PhD with
  Birmingham University

Purpose

• To provide a central point from which
  information from the RNLI, IRCG, DASA and the MCA
  is collected, providing a nationwide picture of
  incidents at sea and used to ensure effective use
  of search and rescue assets, analysis of trends,
  identification of problem areas and to
  legislation and promote water safety initiatives

SEAREM

• 1997 saw the creation of the SEAREM (SEA Related
  Emergency Monitoring database) and since then
  nearly 80 thousand incidents have been recorded.
• The RNLI, MCA, IRCG and DASA all contribute to
  SEAREM.
