STANDARD 4, The Basic Unit of Life!
Tues 11/29/11
  • TOPIC
  • MY GOAL
  • DID YOU KNOW
  • I will complete the Key Terms!
  • The average red blood cell lives for 120 days
  • We give birth to 100 billion RBCs every day.
  • The average white blood cells live for about 3-4
hours in the blood 3-4 days in the tissues
  • We give birth to about 1.2 million WBC/second!
  • There is 1 WBC for every 600-800 RBC

This is an actual picture of White Blood Cells,
in with some red blood cells. The platelets are
stained purple, a T-Lymphocyte white cell is
stained green, and a Monocyte white cell is
stained gold as seen through a scanning electron
microscope.

What IS Standard 4.? The Basic Unit of Life
  • Part 1, The Cell Theory
  • The first unifying theme is biology
  • Explained where cells came from ( where they
didnt), as well as what the basic unit of plants
    animals are
  • Part 2, Cell Structure Functions
  • Organelles the little organs that make up a
    cell
  • Nucleus, ER, Vacuole, Chloroplast, etc
  • And the functions of those little organs

EXPLAIN
  1. Series of transport channels
  2. Stacked membranes used as packaging area
  3. Storage area bigger in plant cell than animal
    cell
  4. Most basic type of cell it DOES have DNA but NO
    true nucleus or little organs
  5. Most advanced type of cell it DOES HAVE a TRUE
    nucleus little organs
  6. Square in shape cell wall as outer covering
  7. Circular in shape membrane as outer covering
  8. Control area of cell contains DNA
  9. Makes proteins
  10. Outer protective covering of plant cell
    bacterial cell
  11. Outer covering of animal cell controls what goes
in out of cell so it maintains homeostasis
  12. Powerhouse of cell energy! In both plants
    animals
  13. Contains chlorophyll NOT in animals!
  1. Prokaryote
  2. Eukaryote
  3. Plant cell
