Censorship for the sake of utopia causes
dystopia, or chaos
Censorship robs us of our history and identity
Fahrenheit 451 is a warning against censorship
Enforced distractions have caused Montag and
Mildred to forget where they met
Suicides have become common. Mildred
accidentally overdoses, and Montag is told that
this happens 10 times a night
Driving fast is an enforced distraction.
Clarisses uncle is arrested for driving too
slowly, which may cause thought and dissension
Censorship deprives us of freedom of individual
expression
Ben Franklin is rewritten into the history books
as the first fireman to burn books
Montag attempts to read the poem Dover Beach
to Mildred and friends. He is reported to the
firemen and his house is burned
Clarisse says that she is labeled antisocial
by the psychologists because she talks to
people, but wont do the destructive
activities the other children do
Mildred is in a play to which she
doesnt know the plot. It is a play
about nothing, but she believes she is
really contributing something to it

Clarisse tells Montag that kids go to
the fun parks to wreck cars, smash windows,
and bully people instead of riding roller
coasters, etc.
The government has Mildred believing that the
people on TV are actually her relatives
