- Catastrophe crashed ashore with no warning out
of a faultlessly clear blue sky. We were idling
in a small boat just off shore amongst a group of
small islands contemplating the beauty of this
tropical paradise less than 500 metres from one
of the world's most beautiful beaches. The choice
of honeymoon location was perfect. There was
barely a ripple in the sea and barely a noise. - Whats happening with the sea? Like me, my
wife was at first intrigued and then almost
immediately very concerned. The water around us
was rising. It wasnt merely swelling, but
vaulting the rock buttresses of the island at an
alarming pace. The whole coast was changing,
receding and disappearing in front of us water
relentlessly climbing ashore. We knew something
remarkable was happening but just how awful had
yet to dawn on us, for in our boat, under that
blue sky, nothing had threatened us.
