Biostatistics Design Program
  • Grant applications and protocol development
  • Sample size and power analysis
  • Statistical analysis plan
  • To receive biostatistics consultation including
grant development support, investigators need to
contact OCTRI at least four weeks in advance of
    deadlines.

research that has greater applicability to
    practice and policy.
  • Consultation in the transfer of knowledge into
    practice and policy, including
  • Practice-based research networks
  • Oregon Evidence-based Practice Center
  • OCHIN Practice Management

  • Clinical Translational Research Center
  • Nursing services inpatient and outpatient
  • Study coordinators
  • Bionutrition and body composition cores
  • Core laboratory
  • Assays
  • Genetic analyses (DNA, RNA, SNP, cell separation)
  • Biostatistics
  • Study implementation
  • Data analysis
  • Manuscript preparation
  • More

Kaiser Permanente Northwest (KPNW)
  • Some KPNW resources are available to OHSU
    investigators, including
  • Patient recruitment (e.g. mailings, flyers,
    clinic visits)
  • Clinical trials unit
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Human tissue biolibrary, with links to the EMR
  • KPCHR collaborators
  • The Front Door can answer questions about these
resources and assess feasibility and cost

11
OCTRI Funding Opportunities
  • Pilot Project Funding
  • Supports the generation of preliminary data that
will launch new NIH R proposals (or similar)
  • 30,000 per award, 2 RFAs per year
  • Career-Development Pilot Project Funding
  • Supports the generation of preliminary data that
will launch new NIH career-development proposals
    (or similar)
  • 15,000 per award, 2 RFAs per year
  • Oregon Scholars in Clinical Research (OSCR KL2)
  • Oregon Students Learn Explore Research (OSLER
    TL1)

12
OCTRI Scholars - support for new investigators
  • OCTRI Scholar status is granted to highly
qualified and motivated new investigators who
also have excellent support from their academic
    units.
  • This type of support is open to
    clinical/translational investigators
  • with an existing career-development award and
preparing to apply for larger funding
  • applying for first career-development award in
    (e.g. K-award)
  • OCTRI supports OCTRI Scholars by providing
research services for their primary project
  • More information and an online application is
available on the OCTRI website under Education
    Training

13
Costs and Fee Structure
  • OCTRI has extensive research services available
for all studies, regardless of funding source.
  • OCTRI may be able to subsidize, partially or in
full, the cost of some services for certain
    investigator-initiated studies, including
  • Studies intended to generate preliminary data
  • Partially-funded studies requiring additional
    resources
  • Requests for subsidized research services are
evaluated according to OCTRI priorities, which
    include
  • Junior investigators with well-established goals
for launching careers primarily devoted to
    clinical and translational research
  • New translational research projects that are
likely to lead to competitive national funding

14
Finding More Information
