2Leaderesource Purpose Statement
Sunday School is a ministry strategy that exists
to assist the church in accomplishing its
God-given mission of making disciples.
Leaderesource is designed to help you as a church
leader in developing a disciple-making culture in
your church through the Sunday School ministry.
3Adult Sunday School Organization
- The focus of this conference is to establish the
biblical basis for organizing the adult Sunday
School division, establish biblical objectives
and recommend ways to organize adults to meet the
objectives. Adult leaders should leave the
conference with greater confidence on how to
organize their adult division to fulfill the
Great Commission.
4I. The Biblical Basis for Organizing Adults
- Within the first few verses of Genesis we see
evidence that God is a God of order and
organization. - His goal was not only to create life, but sustain
it. - Gods desire for orderliness and organization is
demonstrated in practical ways in both the Old
and New Testaments. The following are two
examples
5Example 1
- The arrangement of the Israelite tribal camps in
route to the Promised Land (Numbers 21-2) - The balance of the chapter outlines the camp
location of each tribe, and the order that each
tribe was to proceed in when the camp was ordered
to move to a new location.
6The basic camp organization looked like this
13) Naphtali
12) Asher
11) Dan
Merari
Tabernacle
1) Judah
10) Benjamin
7) Gershon
2) Issachar
9) Manasseh
3) Zebulon
8) Ephraim
Kohath
4) Reuben
5) Simeon
6) Gad
7- Not only did the 12 tribes have their assigned
locations outside the tabernacle complex, the
Levites (descendants of Levi) had their assigned
locations inside the tabernacle complex. - Levi had 3 sons. The sons of these men formed 3
families that composed the tribe of the Levites
(Gershonites, Kohathites, and Merarites). - The thing to remember about this is that God
created and commanded this order.

their biblical objectives must begin with
selecting and training leaders who are assigned

assure an average attendance of 12. - Twelve promotes a strong small group dynamic.
16Organize Adults
- Organize adults for ministry.
- Care group ministry is the heart of so much of
the outward, weekday focus of adult Sunday School
work.
17Care Group Ministry Keys
- Care Groups should be gender-based. Care Groups
are to be accountability groups that through
periodic meetings encourage transparency and
Koinonea. Gender-based groups better enable these
blessings . - Care groups should be balanced with active,
medium active and inactive members.

Sunday School prospect should be assigned to a
Care Group. - Care Groups are ministry teams.
- Care Groups can be discipling groups.
- Care Groups are fellowship groups.
19C. The Learning Environment
- Tips to improve your classroom
- Make sure your space will accommodate more than
your current average attendance. 10 square feet
per adult is required. - Establish a focal wall. The focal wall should be
equipped with a marker board, biblical maps, and
a cork board (or cork strips) for visual aids. - Provide adequate lighting and storage.
20More tips for improving your classroom
- Provide a bulletin board that will contain
personalized name tags for members and name tags
