Babysitting First Aid

• First and foremost soothe and comfort the child.
• You are in charge of the childs wellbeing until
  911 or another adult can get to the scene

When The Worst Happens

• What can happen?
• Bites, choking, cuts, bumps and bruises, burns,
  eye problems, fainting, nosebleeds and poison
• But before the worste happens lets brainstorm
  how we can try to prevent these things from
  occuring!!!!

What should you do?

• Bites clean wound with soup and water. Remove
  the stinger and apply ice
• CutsApply PRESSURE over wound with clean cloth
• BumpsBruises Ice Packs
• Eyes Flush eyes with water
• Poison Call 911

• Burns Run cold water or apply ice pack. Aloe.
  If it starts to bubble its serious-doctor is
  needed. Right after someone gets burned they are
  in shock and often dont feel it until awhile
  later.
• Fainting Lay flat, losen any clothing around
  neck, apply cold water to face, dont give them
  anything to swallow and keep mouth clear. Call
  Doctor

• Nosebleed Could be from injury to nose, object
  in the nose but also during dry winters. They may
  come on with no warning. Sit the child up
  straight, with head slightly forward while
  applying pressure by pinching the nostrils for 15
  minutes. If it doesnt stop after 15 minutes a
  doctor needs to be called!

Choking

• Make sure to cut up food well so this does not
  occur, however, if it does..
• Dont probe the through with fingers (might push
  object further down)
• Perform the Heimlich Maneuver I will show
• Infants turn upside down by heels
• Forcefully hit them in between the shoulder
  blades.

CPR

• Used when someone is unconcious
• Cardio-Pulmonary Resesitation
• Call 911
• Check for a pulse
• Listen for breathing
• Give 3 breaths followed by 30 compressions
• If there is another child have them run next door
  for another adult to call 911. They could also
  help count for you but they really should be
  removed from the tramatic scene!
