    with the invasion of Manchuria and continued in
    1937 with an attack on China.

  • Trying to stop the Japanese aggression and force
    a withdrawal of Japanese forces from Manchuria
    and China, the U. S. imposed economic sanctions
    on Japan.
  • This caused a severe shortages of oil and other
    natural resources in Japan.

  • The United States entered World War II when Japan
    bombed the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor on
    December 7, 1941.
  • The United States declared war on the Axis powers
