Introduction
  • Purpose This class was developed not to
    recreate the wheel, but to focus on the issues
    concerning Gwinnett County incident scene safety
    and examine the ISO directly. Also, to prepare
    for NPQ accreditation for ISO.

Course Scope
  • Within this course we will examine the following
  • History of ISO
  • Standards pertaining to ISO
  • Duties/expectations
  • GCFES policies
  • GCFES RIT

Terminal Performance Objective
  • To have the ability to implement the ISO position
    and successfully perform the task of the ISO.
  • To receive accreditation through GFSTC for NPQ
    ISO certification.

Enabling Objectives
  • Examine the history of the ISO.
  • Examine the national standards directly
    pertaining to the ISO. (NFPA 1500 and 1521).

  • OSHA created in 1970 by RIThard Nixon.
  • A place of employment free from recognized
    hazards.
  • Comply with Occupational Safety and Health
    standards.
  • Title 29 CFR 1910 (Fire Service)

    close to 55,000 injuries.

    functions for the fire department health and
    safety officer.

  • Knowledge of health and wellness
  • Knowledge of hazards with occupation
  • Extensive knowledge of department operations.

  • May alter, suspend or terminate any unsafe or
    hazardous operation.
  • May appoint assistants ISOs.
