FINAL ANSWER?Using TV game shows to engage
studentsand foster peer tutoring
3
RATIONALE
  • need to change things up in class
  • need to better engage students, especially in
    developmental classes
  • need to encourage peer tutoring and help students
    get to know one another

4
USES
  • present examples in a new way
  • extra practice SLO analysis
  • review material
  • edit content for any subject area, faculty
    gatherings, etc.

5
CHALLENGES
  • Keep ALL students engaged.
  • Prevent smarties from dominating.
  • Make it worthwhile.

6
STUDENT FEEDBACK
  • You get to work with your fellow students and
they can teach you as well. Sometimes when the
students show you how the problem is done it
helps you out. As far as who wants to be a
millionaire and jeopardy goes, they are excellent
because you either work your way to a harder
question or you get to choose which topic you
    like.

7
STUDENT FEEDBACK
  • I like the use of the review games because they
not only give you extra practice, but they
refresh you on previously taught material as
well. The games show you your strengths and
weaknesses which help you know what to study
    before the test.

8
STUDENT FEEDBACK
  • I loved the games. It was fun and it taught me
exponents really well. I wouldn't know exponents
as well as I do if it weren't for the games.

9
Preparation
  • Edit Power Point content for subject being taught
    or reviewed.
  • Have student names printed and ready to draw.
  • Divide class into teams.
  • Assign every student a partner or two.
