What is Collaboration?

• Information Power Building Partnerships for
  Learning defines collaboration as one or more
  teachers and the school library media specialist
  working together to design experiences that shape
  student learning.

Why Collaboration?

• Studies have shown for years that test scores are
  higher for students in all grade levels when the
  school library media specialist and teachers
  collaborate with each other on a continual basis.
  
• Assignments developed in partnership between
  teachers and library media specialists are known
  to exhibit a higher degree of meaning and
  significance.

What are the Keys to Collaboration Success?

• The media specialist organizes and provides
  professional development opportunities for the
  classroom teachers.
• The school library media program is communicated
  to the administration, faculty and staff, parents
  and students.
• Collection development is based on the current
  curriculum and teacher needs.
• Media center runs on a flexible schedule.
• Sufficient planning time is provided for
  instructional design and development.
