Macedonia Attacks Greece

• Macedonia was to the north of Greece
• Philip II united Greece in order to defeat Persia
• Philip began to take over the Greek city-states
• Demosthenes warned Athens but it didnt work
• Macedonians defeated the Greeks at the Battle of
  Chaeronea.
• Philip controlled all of Greece

Alexander Builds an Empire

• Alexander began to conquer Persia in 334 B.C.
  with the Battle of Granicus.
• Alexander defeated the Persian army at Issus and
  freed the Greek cities in Asia Minor. Then he
  captured Syria and Egypt.
• Alexandria was a center of business it became
  one of the most important cities in the ancient
  world.
• Conquest through modern day Pakistan, India, and
  Iran
• In 323 BC, Alexander but he became ill and died

  Hellenistic Era
• 4 generals fought for power after and tore the
  empire into 4 kingdoms
• Govt business was conducted in Greek
• Greek culture spread
