Social Studies Standards
  • Responsible citizenship found in the Civics
    (Government) standards.
  • Spatial awareness found in the Geography
    standards.
  • Economic literacy found in the Economics
    standards.
  • Historical analysis found in the World and U.S.
    History standards

3
  • The social studies teacher aspires to
provide instruction in the standards through
    meaningful, challenging, integrated, and active
lessons. The foundation of these state standards
is designed to foster responsible decision making
that benefits the local and tribal community,
state, nation, and world. Responsible citizens
are informed and active. They recognize their
roles in connection with the world. Students in
South Dakota should actively apply this knowledge
    through projects, classroom involvement, and
    volunteerism.
