Medical Requirements

• Every employee that is required to wear a
  respirator will fill out a medical evaluation.
• The company doctor will review the medical
  evaluation and determine if the employee is
  capable of wearing a respirator.

• Positive and Negative Pressure Seal Check
• A positive and negative fit test must be
  performed each time the respirator is put on.
• Be sure to perform the test before entering the
  hazardous atmosphere.

Positive Pressure Seal Check

• 1. Block off the exhalation valve with your palm
• 2. Blow out gently
• 3. If no leaks are detected you have a good fit
• 4. If leaks are detected adjust the face piece
  and test again.

Negative Pressure Seal Check

• 1. Place your palms over the inhalation inlets
• 2. Inhale gently so the face piece collapses
  slightly
• 3. Hold breath for ten seconds
• 4. If the face piece holds the negative pressure
  you have a good fit
• 5. If the face piece looses the pressure, adjust
  the face piece and test again

Inspection

• Check for the following
• 1. Holes in filters
• 2. Loss of elasticity
• 3. Tears
• 4. Broken or loose connections
• 5. Missing parts
• 6. General cleanliness

Cleaning

• 1. Remove filters
• 2. Disassemble face piece
• 3. Discard defective parts
• 4. Wash in warm water
• 5. Rinse thoroughly
• 6. Disinfect
• 7. Reassemble

Storage

• 1. Respirators must be stored in a sealed,
  labeled, plastic bag
• Keep respirator away from chemicals, moisture,
  cold, heat, dust, and sunlight

Fit-Testing

• Respirators will not protect you if they dont
  fit properly!
• Required for negative or positive pressure
  tight-fitting face pieces
• Must be conducted prior to use
• Must be conducted at least annually
• Must be retested if respirator fit or wearer
  changes
