The first son is born

• (Gen 41 NIV) Adam lay with his wife Eve, and
  she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She
  said, "With the help of the LORD I have brought
  forth a man."

Abel is born

• (Gen 42 NIV) Later she gave birth to his
  brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain
  worked the soil.
• The two had two different ways of earning a
  living.

The first recorded Sacrifice

• (Gen 43 NKJV) And in the process of time it
  came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the
  fruit of the ground to the LORD.

Abel brought a lamb

• (Gen 44 NIV) But Abel brought fat portions from
  some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD
  looked with favor on Abel and his offering,

Cain does not take Gods Verdict well.

• (Gen 45 NKJV) but He did not respect Cain and
  his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his
  countenance fell.

What was wrong with Cains Offering?

• We are not told what was wrong!
• Some suggest that it should have been a blood
  sacrifice.
• That may have been the case, but again, we are
  not told.
• There were grain offerings that God accepted.
• Again, we are not told what was wrong, but
  certainly his attitude was wrong.

The Lord questions Cain

• (Gen 46-7 NKJV) So the LORD said to Cain, "Why
  are you angry? And why has your countenance
  fallen? 7 "If you do well, will you not be
  accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at
  the door. And its desire is for you, but you
  should rule over it."

The First Murder

• (Gen 48 NKJV) Now Cain talked with Abel his
  brother and it came to pass, when they were in
  the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his
  brother and killed him.

The First Murder

• (Gen 48 Adam Clarkes translation) And Cain
  said unto Abel his brother, Let us go out into
  the field and it came to pass, when they were in
  the field, that Cain rose up, against Abel his
  brother and killed him.
• According to this translation, there was no
  discussion or consideration of changing, but just
  the plan of Cain to kill Abel.

God gives Cain a chance to confess.

• (Gen 49 NKJV) Then the LORD said to Cain,
  "Where is Abel your brother?" He said, "I do not
  know. Am I my brother's keeper?"
• Why does Cain lie to God?
• Does he have no concept of Gods knowledge?
• Does he think he can bargain with God?

God still tries to get Cain to confess.

• (Gen 410 NKJV) And He said, "What have you
  done? The voice of your brother's blood cries out
  to Me from the ground.
• Some justice will be done.

You will pay, starting now!

• (Gen 411-12 NKJV) "So now you are cursed from
  the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive
  your brother's blood from your hand.
• 12 "When you till the ground, it shall no
  longer yield its strength to you.
• A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the
  earth."

It finally hits Cain what is about to happen

• (Gen 413-14 NKJV) And Cain said to the LORD,
  "My punishment is greater than I can bear!
• 14 "Surely You have driven me out this day from
  the face of the ground
• I shall be hidden from Your face
• I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the
  earth,
• and it will happen that anyone who finds me will
  kill me."

The Lord gives Cain some protection

• (Gen 415 NKJV) And the LORD said to him,
• "Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall
  be taken on him sevenfold."
• And the LORD set a mark on Cain, lest anyone
  finding him should kill him.

Cain begins to pay

• (Gen 416 NKJV) Then Cain went out from the
  presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod
  on the east of Eden.

Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD

• He went out from the presence of the Lord, that
  is, he willingly renounced God and religion, and
  was content to forego its privileges, so that he
  might not be under its precepts. He forsook
  Adam's family and altar, and cast off all
  pretensions to the fear of God, and never came
  among good people, nor attended on God's
  ordinances, any more.

Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD

• INote, Hypocritical professors, that have
  dissembled and trifled with God Almighty, are
  justly left to themselves, to do something that
  is grossly scandalous, and so to throw off that
  form of godliness to which they have been a
  reproach, and under colour of which they have
  denied the power of it. Cain went out now from
  the presence of the Lord, and we never find that
  he came into it again, to his comfort.

Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD

• Hell is destruction from the presence of the
  Lord, 2Th_19. It is a perpetual banishment from
  the fountain of all good. This is the choice of
  sinners and so shall their doom be, to their

Cain Has children

• (Gen 417 NKJV) And Cain knew his wife, and she
  conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city,
  and called the name of the city after the name of
  his son Enoch.

Cains Descendants

• (Gen 418 NKJV) To Enoch was born Irad and Irad
  begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael,
  and Methushael begot Lamech.

Lamech became a Polygamist

• (Gen 419 NKJV) Then Lamech took for himself two
  wives the name of one was Adah, and the name of
  the second was Zillah.

Some tended Livestock

• (Gen 420 NKJV) And Adah bore Jabal. He was the
  father of those who dwell in tents and have
  livestock.

Musicians were born

• (Gen 421 NKJV) His brother's name was Jubal. He
  was the father of all those who play the harp and
  flute.

Craftsmen in bronze Iron

• (Gen 422 NKJV) And as for Zillah, she also bore
  Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in
  bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was
  Naamah.

Lamech becomes very violent

• (Gen 423 NKJV) Then Lamech said to his wives
  "Adah and Zillah, hear my voice Wives of Lamech,
  listen to my speech! For I have killed a man for
  wounding me, Even a young man for hurting me.
  24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, Then
  Lamech seventy-sevenfold."

Seth is born as the Spiritual Hope

• (Gen 425 NKJV) And Adam knew his wife again,
  and she bore a son and named him Seth, "For God
  has appointed another seed for me instead of
  Abel, whom Cain killed."

The Spiritual Side of the Family

• (Gen 426 NKJV) And as for Seth, to him also a
  son was born and he named him Enosh. Then men
  began to call on the name of the LORD.
