Obesity and Hypertension
  • Hypertension is attributable to obesity in 75 of
    men and 65 of women
  • Adiposity is a major controllable risk factor for
    hypertension
  • Minor changes in weight status dramatically
affect blood pressure control, particularly when
    coupled with regular PA

28
Hypertension and Kidney Disease
  • The sustained high blood pressure associated with
overweight and obesity damages blood vessels
throughout the body, including the small vessels
    that feed the kidneys
  • Hypertension causes more than 25,000 new cases of
    kidney failure every year
  • More than 25 of kidney disease in U.S. adults
    may be related to obesity
