Title: The NCSX Engineering Web
1The NCSX Engineering Web An Overview
- Part II
- Specifications, Design Criteria, Statements of
Work, Design Reviews, Analyses, and RD
2Purpose
- Provides overview indoctrination of several parts
of the NCSX Engineering Web - This module will focus on the next two parts of
the NCSX Engineering Web - Specs, Design Criteria, and Statements of Work
and the Accompanying Guideline documents - Design Reviews, Analyses, and RD
- Parts I and III-IV will provide overview
indoctrination of the other parts of the NCSX
Engineering Web - Part I (Module 2A) Work Planning Project
Control, Project Files, and Management Plans
Procedures - Part III (Module 2C) Design Data and
Fabrication, Assembly, and Installation Test
Plans - Part IV (Module 2D) Engineering Management
Systems Engineering and Other - Later modules to go into much further depth on
how the NCSX Project will do business - The NCSX Engineering Web is, to a major extent,
the electronic NCSX filing system - Exceptions are the models and drawings contained
in the Pro/INTERALINK data base and the hard copy
supplier and other PPPL documents stored in the
PPPL Operations Center - However bulk of files stored electronically on
this web
3Specs, Design Criteria, and SOWs
Specs/Design Criteria/SOWs Information

4Specifications, Design Reviews, and Statements of
Work (SOWs)
- Information Links
- GRD
- Subsystem Specifications
- Design Criteria Documents
- Statements of Work
- Information Links
- Procurement Guide
- SOW Guidelines
- Spec Guidelines
5General Requirements Document (GRD)
- Top level NCSX Project technical specification
- Provides a complete set of performance
requirements and constraints at the overall
project level - Also provides an initial allocations down to the
subsystems - Top-level system requirements in the GRD flow
down to a set of specific developmental
requirements and further down to the appropriate
product component/procurement level
6Subsystem Specifications
- Development Specifications
- Document design requirements for cog engineers
- System Requirements Documents (SRDs), generally
prepared for each 2-digit WBS, are the prime
examples - Product Specifications
- Serve as a basis for a procurement or fabrication
- Product function spec defines the product by
specifying its functionality used when supplier
does the design - Product fabrication spec defines the product by
specifying the design used when project does
the design - Other Product specs to be added as necessary
- Product Requirements List (PRL)
- Used to specify minimum requirements when
purchasing a catalog item when a formal
specification would be overkill
7Subsystem Specifications
Example Modular Coils
Links to specific WBS element specifications
8Design Criteria
Structural Design Criteria Seismic Design
Criteria Others as they become available
9Statements of Work (SOW)
Single page with links to all the current
versions of Statements of Work (SOW)
SOWs do not normally transmit technical
requirements

This needs to be updated on the Web IAW
Malsburys comments
First Section Provides and Overview
Subsequent Sections Provide Section by Section
Details
12Information Link to the Specification Guidelines
- Link leads to detailed instructions and sample
specification - Example here is a product fabrication spec
- Will also have links to product function spec,
PRLs, and other unique specs (as needed)
Still Out of date Web needs to be updated to
reflect PRLs
13Design Reviews, Analyses, and RD
- Design Reviews/Analyses/RD
- Information Links
- Design Reviews
- Analysis Reports
- RD Reports
- Guidance Links
- Design Review Guidelines
- Documentation of Analyses
14Design Reviews
Example Modular Coils
- Links to specific WBS Design Reviews
- Peer or CDR
- PDR
- FDR
- Other
15Analysis Reports
Example Systems Engineering Global Analyses
16RD Reports
- Provides Guidelines on How to Document Reports
per PPPL Engineering Procedure ENG-033 - Graded Approach Philosophy
- Formal Analysis Report format per ENG-033
17Summary
- This introduction to the NCSX Engineering Web
module has covered several parts of the NCSX
Engineering Web - Specs, Design Criteria, Statements of Work
- Design Reviews, Analyses, and RD
- Other introductory modules will cover the
remaining parts of the NCSX Engineering Web - Module 2A Work Planning Project Control,
Project Files, and Management Plans Procedures - Module 2C - Design Data and Fabrication,
Assembly, and Installation Test Plans - Module 2D - Engineering Management Systems
Engineering and Other - More detailed modules will focus in depth on key
aspects of how the NCSX Project will do business
