What is Happening to the Rainforest?
  • The rainforest is disappearing! Statistics show
14 of the earths surface was once covered. Now a
mere 6 remain. Experts even predict that in
forty years the rainforest will be completely
    gone!

  • The permanent destruction of forests and
    woodlands

9
Why is the Rainforest Being Destroyed?
  • The value of rainforest land is perceived as only
the value of its timber by multi-national logging
    companies, and land owners.

What are The Effects of Destroying the
Rainforest?
  • We are losing 137 plant, animal and insect
species every single day. That equates to 50,000
    species a year!
  • Possible cures for life-threatening diseases
  • Continuous extinction of Indigenous tribes and
their accumulated knowledge of the medicinal
    value of rainforest species
  • Losing half of the world's species of plants,
    animals and microorganisms
