• Maternal cigarette smoking is an ongoing problem
  in childs health
• According to Estonian National Institute for
  Health Development Medical birth registry 8,7
  (1357 pregnant women of 13053) smoked during
  pregnancy
• Only 1,8 of pregnant quit smoking during first
  trimester of pregnancy in 2007.

Smoking during pregnancy

• harms not only the smoker, but also the unborn
  child.
• The risks can be classified into prenatal,
  perinatal and postnatal health hazards.

Passive smoke

• exposure in infants and children contributes to
  higher rates of respiratory illness
• It is estimated to be responsible for 19 of the
  expenditures for pediatric respiratory disease

  quitting smoking during pregnancy
